This wine completes Groote Post Vineyards' admired Salt Collection trio alongside Seasalter and Pinch of Salt.
The reimagined Salt of the Earth marks an essential shift from its traditional 60% Shiraz and 40% Cinsault composition to a more contemporary 60% Cinsault and 40% Shiraz blend. This thoughtful recalibration delivers a fresher, more elegant expression while honouring the wine’s established character and reputation.
“This new Salt of the Earth marks our first ever Cinsault-based blend, introducing a new dimension of vibrant fruit, refined structure, and an elegant palate,” says winemaker Lukas Wentzel. “This lighter red wine aligns perfectly with evolving consumer preferences, offering a fresh and contemporary take on red blends.”
The refreshed packaging seamlessly integrates Salt of the Earth with the established Salt Collection aesthetic, creating visual harmony across the entire line while reinforcing Groote Post’s cohesive brand identity.
“This is a full-circle moment for us, completing the trio in our Salt Collection wines,” says Peter Pentz, Communications Manager at Groote Post. “A golden thread runs through each: Seasalter, Pinch of Salt, and Salt of the Earth, tying them together in philosophy and style.”
The wine presents dark, ripe plum and cherry fruit aromas, cracked pepper, and subtle fynbos notes. The Shiraz contributes signature spice and depth on the palate, while the Cinsault brings vibrant, fresh juiciness with supple tannins and a silky finish. A distinctive savoury minerality reflects the terroir that inspires its name.
Salt of the Earth embodies Groote Post’s deep connection to their West Coast home. It honours the natural elements – ocean breezes, rich biodiversity, and mineral-rich soils – that shape their vineyards and define their winemaking philosophy.
“At Groote Post, our wines reflect the place we call home,” adds Pentz. “Salt of the Earth is more than just a wine name; it embodies our winemaking and business philosophy, humble, honest, and deeply committed to nature.”
The reimagined Salt of the Earth is now available at select retailers nationwide and at the Groote Post Online Shop at the recommended retail price of R315 per bottle.
